Part of a $800,000 grant will go to research on software for the deaf. The money comes from the US National Science Foundation and will support the work of six Queens College science and math professors’ research. One of the researchers at the Long Island school is computer science professor Matt Huenerfauth who has been recognized for his research on improving assistive technology for people with disabilities. He'll study how to design computer programs to translate English text into on-screen animations of ASL.
