Academic Bowl
The Maryland School for the Deaf took the top prize in the 14th annual National High School Academic Bowl for the second year in a row. They defeated the Metro Deaf School/Minnesota Star Academy team. Sixteen teams competed in the two-day event at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. Each match has three rounds, consisting of a 15-question tossup round, a team round in which each member is asked questions individually, and a final round of 10 questions on one subject. The three months of regional competitions leading up to the national event involved 76 teams of deaf and hard of hearing students from all-deaf, as well as mainstream, high schools all over the country. The three highest ranking teams and one at-large team participated in the national contest. Read more here.
