Atlanta researchers say they've come up with a better version of the cochlear implant. Scientists at the Medical College of Georgia want to add more electrodes to conventional cochlear implants and use thinner, more flexible wire. Dr. Brian McKinnon says tests of the device show the sound reception could be several times better than implants already on the market. The findings were presented in Stockholm at the 11th International Conference on Cochlear Implants and Other Auditory Implantable Technology.
