Shawn P. Carey is the first deaf priest in Massachusetts at age 37. Father Shawn attended Springfield's Cathedral High School, where he was the only deaf student and had no interpreter. He choose his profession when he met a deaf priest during high school, who gave a Mass in sign language. He studied at California's St. Patrick’s Seminary for six years.
