Painter's Biography

A Deaf Artist in Early America tells the story of painter John Brewster Jr. who lived from 1766-1854. Born deaf, Brewster never signed his works ''sourd-muet" - ''deaf mute" - as did other deaf artists of his time. The book is written by Harlan Lane, an authority on deafness and professor in the psychology department at Northeastern University.
