Children with cochlear implants catch up with their peers and enjoy similar educational and employment levels, according to a new study. French researchers found the deaf children who receive cochlear implants are likely to do poorly in early grades but eventually equal other students their own age. Most of the children followed in the study without other disabilities received mainstream schooling. Details of the study are in the April issue of
