Ear tubes apparently don't create problems for children who are given cochlear implants. Researchers say myringotomy tubes can be managed like tubes in other children who are prone toward complications. The University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical School looked at information from 62 children and discovered tympanic membranes from which tubes were removed before or during the implant healed. There were no cases of meningitis or implant removals because of infection. Details are in the Archives of Otolaryngology -- Head & Neck Surgery.
