First brain stem implant in Clinical trial successful

The first brain stem implant at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles took place Tuesday. Riskier than typical cochlear implant surgery, only a few have been performed on young children in the U.S. Tuesday's procedure--on a deaf 3-year-old boy--was the first in a federally approved clinical trial.
